Misconceptions v. Fact Part 1: The Tests – What Florida Requires and Why Real-world expectations are constantly shifting and expanding.If we want today’s students to graduate ready to succeed in the increasingly complex global marketplace, education standards for our state’s children must evolve as well.
Florida is a national leader in adopting and implementing new, higher standards to better prepare students to master crucial skills. A fundamental part of this strategic plan is our state’s data-based accountability system – a system fueled by Florida’s nationally lauded standardized assessments. These tests measure whether and how much each student is learning, while giving parents and teachers the opportunity to intervene if a child needs additional support.
Recently, there has been some confusion surrounding testing in Florida, and this is the first of a five-part series in which we will break down some common misconceptions on this issue to clearly separate fact from fiction. The chart below contrasts truths and research with some of the misinformation presently clouding the discussion.
