Statement by the Foundation for Florida’s Future on the release of Florida's 2010 Elementary and Middle School Grades

Tallahassee, FL - The Foundation for Florida’s Future issues the following statement regarding the release of Florida's 2010 Elementary and Middle School Grades.

“With the declines in elementary reading this year, Florida's lawmakers, leaders, and educators should come together to develop a comprehensive plan to make sure students are learning a year's worth of knowledge in a year's time," said Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida's Future.

"As we work to ensure every student is learning the skills necessary to compete in the 21st century workforce, we must focus on core reading programs.  I encourage the Legislature to restore funding for core programs, including reading, reading coaches and other programs that have shown an impact in improving student performance."
