Funding Student Achievement

Since Florida started rewarding schools for improving a letter grade or earning an A, Florida’s students have surged past the national average in reading, according to the Nation’s Report Card.

Goal

In education, how money is spent is as important as how much money is spent.  Targeted funding that creates an incentive for achievement and rewards rigor yields better results.

Solutions

  • Protect the state’s Assessment Budget ($90 million).
  • Restore funding for School Recognition to $100 per student.
  • Ensure reading funds are dedicated to reading, not other uses.
  • Protect funding for the bonuses teachers and districts receive when students pass exams in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Advanced International Certificate of Education.
